Raphael Sanzio
1. Raffaello Sanzio or Raphael was a painter and an architect during the high Renaissance period.
2. He was born on April 6th in the year 1483.
3. He was born in the town of Urbino in Italy.
4. His artworks are split into three parts: His early career - the early days of his career. The Florentine period - Raphael went to the city for 4 years. His final years - he produced his best works of art.
5. Raphael came from a family of artists. Raphael's father painted some pieces for the court of Urbino when Raphael was young and he helped his father to do these. This showed his talent from an early age.
6. He did a self portrait when he was about 15 or 16 and it is the earliest known example of his work.
7. In 1508 he went to Rome, he lived there for the rest of his life.
8. In 1510 he was asked by the Pope to paint his personal library.
9. He is best known for his "Madonnas" including the Sistine Madonna and his large figure compositions in the palace of the Vatican in Rome.
10.A lot of his work still remains as it was done for the Vatican.
11. His last painting was called the Transfiguration.
